Matkapahoinnissa lapsilla: mikä toimii
Antihistamiineilla on taustallaan Cochrane-arviointi. Suurin osa hyllyltä löytyvistä vaihtoehdoista ei ole yhtä tehokkaita.
Miksi se tapahtuu
Vestibulaarijärjestelmäsi raportoi liikkeestä; silmäsi raportoivat paikallaan olevan sisätilan. Aivot saavat kaksi yhteensopimatonta kertomusta samasta tilanteesta ja reagoivat pahoinvoinnilla. Tämä yksi mekanismi selittää lähes kaikki käytännön neuvot.
Se selittää myös, miksi kuljettaja harvoin tuntee pahoinvointia: he näkevät, mihin auto on menossa ja odottavat jokaista liikettä, joten kertomukset ovat yhteneviä.

Käytännön toimenpiteet
- Istu heidät paikkaan, josta he näkevät eteenpäin. Visuaalinen ja vestibulaarinen tieto ovat paremmin yhteneviä eteenpäin katsottaessa kuin sivulle.
- Pidä matkustamo viileänä ja hyvin tuuletettuna. Lämpö ja tunkkaisuus pahentavat tilannetta.
- Kevyt ruoka etukäteen. Tyhjällä vatsalla ja raskas ateria ovat molemmat huonompia kuin jokin pieni.
- Siirry ääneen mutkaisilla teillä. Moottoritiet ovat paljon siedettävämpiä näyttöjen suhteen kuin vuoristopolut.
- Pysähdy ensimmäiseen merkkiin. Kun oksentaminen alkaa, loppumatka on paljon vaikeampi pelastaa.
- Ota mukaan ilmeinen varustepaketti. Laukut, pyyhkeet, vaihtovaatteet, vettä. Valmistautuminen vähentää kaikkien stressiä.
